I’m a mama of two little ones who adore superheroes and storytime. Having spent a big part of motherhood inventing “superhero missions” with my kiddos and reading their favourite books, I realised that very few of the books they love include characters who look like them, particularly superheroes. A certain saying came to mind, “If you don’t see it on the shelf, write it yourself.” So I did!

It’s important to me that all children feel seen, represented, and proud of who they are. I want our kids to feel connected to their culture and excited about South Asian foods, which is why these themes are woven into the Super Shriya stories. Most of all, I want our kids to believe in themselves.

“Super Shriya and the Purple Diya” incorporates the above in a light-hearted and funny way. It is a fantasy-based rhyming story which has an overarching message of overcoming self-doubt with self-belief. I hope you enjoy this first story, and stay tuned for more adventures to come!
